Import your wallet from MetaMask
Importing your recovery phrase from MetaMask should be a straightforward process. Likewise, a step-by-step guide will be provided here, along with a particular case that deserves detailed explanation.
First and foremost, it is important to understand what the recovery phrase is and how it should be managed. For that, it is advisable to visit the following entry:
What is the Derivation Path?
If you want to use the 12 words from your recovery phrase to import your wallet to Defiant, the first thing you need to do is go to the main menu of the app, and then click on:
My Wallets → Import
On the next screen, you will see the space to enter your 12 words —Defiant will verify that each of the 12 entered words is a valid word—. The next step is to Select coins: there, you will see different blockchains and coins to choose from, indicating which ones you want to be visible in the imported wallet. By selecting some of these coins, clicking Accept, and then Continue, the import process will be completed.
If the import is successful, Defiant will now have a new wallet that shows the same balances and addresses as MetaMask for the corresponding coins. If this doesn't happen, it is likely that the MetaMask account you are trying to import is not the primary account.
If you are trying to import more than one MetaMask account —since MetaMask allows creating multiple accounts with a single set of 12 words—, the process described above will only import the first one.
If there is a second account, the import should be done as if it were a completely independent wallet from the previous one, repeating the process from the menu: My Wallets → Import.
Just like in the previous case, you need to enter the recovery phrase in the corresponding space. Then, click on the ⚙️ button in the upper right corner, select the Custom option, and the value that follows (the derivation path) should be changed to m/44'/60'/0'/0/1. After that, you can add the desired coins, and you're done.
If you have a third account —and you can adjust this for a fourth or fifth account—, the steps to follow are the same, this time entering the derivation path m/44'/60'/0'/0/2.
To learn more about the derivation path, you can refer to What is the Derivation Path?
